  • Comment: The packaging was amazing-- without getting into details, they understand what they are doing. Everyone arrived alive, though 2 of the 30 corys have been listing and a bit more somnalent than I would like to see. Hopefully they will come around with TLC. As for the fish themselves, the corys are lovely. If you are on the fence about the long finned C aeneas or C paleatus, don't be. I wasn't prepared to like them this much! Much nicer than other long finned that I have previously seen. The harlequins are robust and very high quality. The only "meh" fish was the male platinum red tailed dumbo eared guppy. His pectoral fins are more standard than "dumbo" and overall has quite a scrawny body compared to the one received in early September. He is not breeding quality-- pet quality only. The female of the pair is lovely. And the turquoise guppies are surprisingly nice, with even the females nicely colored.

  • Comment: The fish arrived ahead of promised schedule by an hour. The heat pack was still warm, and the fish were lively and healthy, ready for their new home. I am very impressed with the packaging. The fish have only been in my tank for about a week (today is 10/8/24), but, so far, so good. I can't say enough about the great customer service and the people I communicated with, from order to delivery, at Dans Fish.com. I am a very satisfied customer, and I look forward to doing business with Dans Fish again.

  • Comment: All of the fishes arrived alive, healthy, and energetic. However, I received a fish that I did not order for. I understand that this is not the company’s fault because the fish looked very similar to corydoras habrosus in its coloring, and they don’t even have any fish that looks similar to it. Still the fact that this happens is still very inconvenient to me since the shipping price is high and I paid premium prices to avoid situations like this in the first place. Not a strong first impression for me.

Seller Reply: Hello Draon, Thanks for the honest review. Was it a mimic tetra? Corydoras habrosus and a species of tetra mimic each other as a survival strategy. They look identical enough to fool predators, and us humans at times. Still, I think we owe you for this one.   • Comment: I received my order this morning of "Albino Red Vienna Cauliflower Swordtail". I was sent 3 females and 1 male, which was a great mix. Unfortunately I ordered Albino Red Vienna Cauliflower Swordtail and received hifi swordtails. These fish are a far reach from the fish pictured. These are definitely hifi's and not Cauliflower. The male is I guess what you would call a Cauliflower but leaves a lot to be desired. I sincerely thought you guys would do me right, but this order was a huge disappointment. The females are beautiful fish, just not what I paid for and the male was an obvious desperate attempt to just fill an order. This male should of been a cull as it doesn't do the breed justice and should never be bred. I was truthfully hoping to fill my fishroom with fish from Dan's because Cory speaks so highly of you guys.

  • Comment: Our order delivery was delayed a day by UPS and 2 of the Starry Shrimp were DOA. Some of the Amano's had molted, but I'm hopeful they will survive. The Panda Cory's are doing great. In a heavily planted 90 gallon tank it's difficult to see the new Amano & Starry Shrimp. It took about 6 weeks for the initial 4 Cherry Shrimp to settle in. Now there are literally dozens. I'm hoping the Starry Shrimp will have the same results....

  • Comment: The Forktails and CPD's were very small and I lost 8 of the 10 Forktails since delivery as well as half of the CPD's. The water quality is excellent but these guys never started eating. I'm going to take the chance of reordering the CPD's since I have had better luck with them in the past. I'll wait to see if the 2 remaining Forktails survive.... As of 10/1/24 only 1 of the Forktails has survived. As of 10/20/24 none of the Forktails have survived

These Chili Rasboras arrived in fantastic condition, were well-packed and healthy, and were already eating minutes after being introduced into the aquarium. They were also a very nice size. Dan's Fish is an asset to the hobby!

He says his prices are high given the care he places into sourcing, quarantining and shipping the fish ethically, but frankly, for his rarer, more expensive species, his prices seem fairly in line with market, at lease for the 8 cory pantanalensis I received. Fish are all doing great on day 5 so far. Oh ya, I love his fish room tours on youtube. PLEASE do them more frequently Dan! :)

  • Comment: Bought several dwarf cichlids, and had 2 Dead on arrival's. When i tried to message the owner about it he denied sending any replacemenets to me as I didn't shoot him an email immediately as I was at work.(Sent the email a day later) one of the dwarf cichlids had HITH- Hole in the head disease. which is a nasty disease that comes from keeping the fish in an aquarium with ammonia for too long without doing a water change. and he refused to send a replacement and basically insinuated that I was a liar trying to rip him off. so in the end I do not suggest this seller whatsoever. His customer support is terrible and his fish are badly treated and sick.

The only issue is it looks like I got all males, so I am going to have to find some ladies to calm them down. Edit: Apparently I am really bad at sexing diamond tetras. I have seen a couple fry in the tank. I wasn't planning on breeding them, so bonus!

  • Comment: Big fan of Dan’s fish in every way. And will continue to support the business. But I was not satisfied with the fish I received. Although very healthy, and shipped perfectly, I did not receive what I saw in the videos. I asked for 3 male killifish (“the bigger the better” is what I indicated in my comments). What I received were 3 very small (gray/pale) females with no color at all. It’s been about 2 weeks. They are just little gray/pale fish. Well the smallest was eaten by an angel fish (this one was tiny)… I was hoping for the beautiful colored ones advertised. But I understand the risks of ordering fish you cannot pick out yourself. I still support and trust Dan’s Fish. But will be more careful explaining my preferences in the future. I do love what you do and appreciate being able to order species I cannot find in my area.

  • Comment: All fish arrived alive and well. My only criticisms are quite minor. Three of the glass catfish had damaged whiskers. I know they can be quite delicate, they should regrow. Also, there was a marble-sized ramshorn snail in one of the kuhli loach bags. Not sure how that happened. It wasn't in the inner bag with the fish, it was in the outer bag. Weird.

  • Comment: An excellent experience! This is my 2nd order with Dan’s fish and just placed a 3rd order. I’m so happy to have a reputable online store that ethically sources and ships their fish. I’m happy to pay a bit more for better handling and exceptional customer service. I find it odd my that fish tend to be the cheapest part of the hobby…plants and soil cost more. Seems a little backwards :) My nearest LFS is 2 hours away and the selection at Dan’s is far better than what I’m able to get locally. I’m a happy customer who’ll be back again!

I contacted Dan’s and was told that they were sorry it appears the end of the order was female heavy but I could request all males and do another order next time they come in. To me this policy absolutely screws those of us willing to take a few females. I’m not sure if I will be back or not. The fish are really nice

  • Comment: Disappointed is an understatememt.. 1. The Red cobra guppies - I purchased 2 pairs. The one male arrived seriously bloated and passed during acclimation. The other male is so poorly colored he looks like a female. I can only identify him vs. the females by his gonapodium. 2. The yellow sunset galaxy guppies are pretty but nothing like the pictures. I was so excited for them. I am hoping maybe they will become nicer as they age but nowhere in the sales page does it say these are juvenile fish. 3. White tuxedo females are pretty but both are giving the parasite look with sunken belly. All the bags had tons of white stringy feces. I know your website says you fast the fish so I guess it's possible the poop is from that... However, I spent almost $250 and I am not at all happy or feel like the fish were worth that price tag.

  • Comment: These are fantastic fish, and are shipped with unmatched care. The come in individual, double bagged sealed packets, with each individual lively upon arrival. In a well planted tank with it's own real food chain of micro- and macro-fauna, these unique specimens lie in wait to hunt their tiny prey. Only after they fatten up on your mini critters can you see their beautiful body shape and notable fins. But you may rarely see them in your tank, even after they've grown, and even if you have a significant population. They hunt by stealth and move little until they strike. You may think they all passed until one morning you see six of them just hanging out in view. If you want in-your-face showy, these are not for you. If you're patient and confident, you will be rewarded. I'd add art, but they rarely appear when I'm ready to capture them on video or in a still pic. Plus, the joy is watching them. Who wants to spoil that with work?

One place tried to pass a Killifish as a Double Red Dwarf Cockatoo?? Ha! Good try! Any ways all I have to say is WOW! GOOD JOB! I got what I ordered and fish were very healthy. I waited a couple of days till I wrote this. I watched their video on how they take care of their fish and ""THIER"" way on shipping them. Make since to me. Bags are a little small to PH Acclimate.   • Comment: This was my 4th? time purchasing from Dan's Fish. Every previous order was perfect, the fish were perfect, no problems. This time I ordered 2 siamese algae eaters, 4 berlin swords (I asked for at least one male and at least one female, and they did it even though they were unsexed) and 4 saffron orange sailfin mollies. All of the fish arrived in good condition except one sailfin mollie had a strange sunken belly right behind the gills. The next day all of the mollies had their fins clamped. All of the fish ate the day of the delivery and the day after, so that's good. I notified Dan, and he refunded me for the molly with a sunken belly, and advised I use praziquantel to treat the mollies. I have to say I am disappointed, I appreciate the refund, but I would rather have a healthy fish than a sick free fish. This hasn't deterred me from ordering from Dan, in fact, I just placed another order for some different mollies, so we will see how they arrive, and hopefully Dan will go back to 100% for me. Dan still, even with the sick mollies, has a much better track record for me than my local fish shops.

Which was a huge comfort as I've read reviews that cardinals are not as hardy. (even a reputable lfs said the ones they sell are hit or miss) Turns out cardinals are hardy if they are taken care of and shipped safely. -First Time purchaser (definitely not the last time)

  • Comment: This is my first experience ordering fish online. I ordered 7 cardinal tetras on Thurs evening, got an email that evening that my order would be shipped on Monday, arriving Tues. Shipment arrived within the window provided by UPS. Very impressive, especially here in Northern NV! Fish were packaged very well. They looked transparent (could hardly tell they were cards), but lively. (Of course if you shipped me in a box from WY to NV, I'd be pale too!)
