  • Comment: I hesitated on giving a rating of four instead of five but the description of my purchase just did not match what I got. I ordered a Hypancistrus sp. L262 (L262 Stardust Pleco) which was advertised as being 2-3 inches in size. The actual critter would have to stretch to be 1 inch. This is not a big deal but I just can't give a five when what is advertised does not match the delivery. This was probably just an oversight but could be important depending on other fish in the tank. All in all I like these people. I've thrown several questions at them through their contact form and, while they could not help in all cases, the response has always been quick and polite. All in all I would highly recommend this outfit.

These little beans are super healthy, came in looking fantastic despite being delayed by UPS by a day, and were eating and settling in nicely within 24 hours! You can't ask for better than that!! And, it looks like Dan and his team were able to sex them for me, too! Thank you so much! I wasn't able to get an unboxing video made since they were a day late and I was under the weather, but I did make an update video! They are fabulous little beans!

  • Comment: Even though Dan's Fish normally only ships on Mondays and Wednesdays, They made an exception for me and shipped on a Thursday for delivery on Friday when I was going to have a day off of work. The fish were shipped on Thursday afternoon and arrived before 9am on Friday in excellent health. They were a little skittish in the quarantine tank (as expected), but eagerly came out for a little food later in the day. In the last few days, they've very enthusiastically accepted frozen blood worms and mysis shrimp, flake, and micro pellet food. I'm very happy with this purchase, and will definitely be buying from Dan's Fish in the future!!

I'm making him a sand waterfall, from slate rocks. He loves all the nooks and crannies and he's really interactive with it. It night he buries himself where the sand falls. I asked if they could accommodate selecting fish by gender (2 males, 4 females) and they were happy to help which was greatly appreciated for M. boesemani. Males were guaranteed and they did their best for females noting immature males/females may look the same which is honest and fair. Very happy overall.

  • Comment: This is only the 2nd time I have bought fish online, admittedly, I was nervous. But, could not be happier with entire transaction --- from ordering, to communication, to notifications, to actual delivery. The Fish!!! About a year ago, I lost 6 of my 10 african knives (no sympanthy from my fish friends when they found out I had them for 20 years) and had been looking to replace them. Dan's fish had 7 at a reasonable cost, so, of course, I bought all of them. They arrived healthy, active, a couple even eating what I offered an hour out of the bag. Currently, chilling in quanitine, but I'm looking forward to having a "full" tank of knives again crusing happily around one tank. Based on this experience, I will be back for more "wish list" fish from Dan's fish and can recommend Dan's fish without any reservation.

  • Comment: I bought groups of miyuki white ricefish, blue shrimp, and baby bristlenose plecos. Everything arrived healthy. The ricefish and bristlenose were plump and active. The blue shrimp were deeply colored with no pale ones. To give a specific example of the general health/vigor of the fish that arrived - I did see a female ricefish carrying eggs around on day #2 of them being home.

  • Comment: All of my fish came in alive and healthy. It seems that this species seems to have a pH acclimation preference around the 6 pH mark with a couple of almond leaves in the tank. Some will establish their territories in given "Apistogramma caves". They reside near the bottom when the filter was introduced, indicating sensitivity to filtration and water parameters. They can enjoy some live worms, but will require cutting into smaller proportions. Plants such as Java Moss, subwassertang, and liverwort provide hiding spots for the fish and enable them to seek refuge and establish their own respective territories. Will continue researching this unique species.

  • Comment: I had a special request for at least 1 male Macropodus spechti, while the fish were too young to definitively sex, Dan found me the best three that he could, and sent me one that has a high chance of turning out to be male. Let me just say that the shipping job was top tier! Thick double bags that are heat sealed and individually labeled with a single fish per bag. carefully lined newspaper, no wiggle room, and extra secure heat pack on the top that is still warm enough it's actually warming me up right now! Every fish arrived healthy, and while they've only been in the tanks for an hour, they're already happily eating and coloring up. The true sign of a careful ship! Thank you so much for all of your effort, Dan! I'm absolutely coming back for more!

Males are coloring up at a small size and young age nicely. The shipment was spot on! Fish were not too stressed. They adapted to the planted tank and community mates very well.   • Comment: Both S. rutilaureus came in healthy and active a few weeks ago. They just moved into the mixed species stiphodon colony today. They've given me no issues, which has become the norm for me, ordering from Dan. The bulk of my stiphodon colony is solely from Dan. I started it some months ago, and I haven't lost a single fish I've bought from him. Buying from other retailers has been a different story, though. I always expect at least a partial die-off in the quarantine and de-worming period if I buy from another retailer. If you want healthy gobies you don't have to worry about de-worming and always arrive healthy, vibrant and active, buy from Dan! 5/5
