  • Comment: Package was not labeled “live” anything. Ring camera recorded it being thrown by door in Florida heat. (Previous order was packed and was delivered with care directly to me - door bell was rung until I opened door). Chili were ok overall (2 were stressed and seem to still be small tiny and hide and glass surf non stop), 11 chilis were fine. 2/3 mystery snails (magenta) were oozing slime, i separated them in a separate tank, now I’m watching them slowly die, efforts to maintain stability are not paying off of it seems. Set up adjusted for 1 snail inability to come up for air, He’s floating sideways on a sponge, the other barely walking. Water quality excellent, temp stable, attempted to feed but kinda tricky (used sera veggie tabs). Golden Amano shrimp recovered it seems, 1 molted right away, seem to be doing good.

  • Comment: One of the Habrosus I ordered did not make it. The carbon piece in was in was broken into pieces. Therefore, I can only think of 2 reasons, either the fish was crushed due to the inner bag being folded or the carbon piece was not functional and the fish died to its own poison. Rather sad that top of the line fish services is still not top of the line fish handling. The other fishes did well.

  • Comment: All of the fishes arrived alive, healthy, and energetic. However, I received a fish that I did not order for. I understand that this is not the company’s fault because the fish looked very similar to corydoras habrosus in its coloring, and they don’t even have any fish that looks similar to it. Still the fact that this happens is still very inconvenient to me since the shipping price is high and I paid premium prices to avoid situations like this in the first place. Not a strong first impression for me.

Seller Reply: Hello Draon, Thanks for the honest review. Was it a mimic tetra? Corydoras habrosus and a species of tetra mimic each other as a survival strategy. They look identical enough to fool predators, and us humans at times. Still, I think we owe you for this one.   • Comment: Big fan of Dan’s fish in every way. And will continue to support the business. But I was not satisfied with the fish I received. Although very healthy, and shipped perfectly, I did not receive what I saw in the videos. I asked for 3 male killifish (“the bigger the better” is what I indicated in my comments). What I received were 3 very small (gray/pale) females with no color at all. It’s been about 2 weeks. They are just little gray/pale fish. Well the smallest was eaten by an angel fish (this one was tiny)… I was hoping for the beautiful colored ones advertised. But I understand the risks of ordering fish you cannot pick out yourself. I still support and trust Dan’s Fish. But will be more careful explaining my preferences in the future. I do love what you do and appreciate being able to order species I cannot find in my area.

  • Comment: All the fish arrived health, the shipping and packaging are A+ for sure. However the fish came 80% female a risk you take when you order unsexed. I contacted Dan’s and was told that they were sorry it appears the end of the order was female heavy but I could request all males and do another order next time they come in. To me this policy absolutely screws those of us willing to take a few females. I’m not sure if I will be back or not. The fish are really nice

  • Comment: This was my 4th? time purchasing from Dan's Fish. Every previous order was perfect, the fish were perfect, no problems. This time I ordered 2 siamese algae eaters, 4 berlin swords (I asked for at least one male and at least one female, and they did it even though they were unsexed) and 4 saffron orange sailfin mollies. All of the fish arrived in good condition except one sailfin mollie had a strange sunken belly right behind the gills. The next day all of the mollies had their fins clamped. All of the fish ate the day of the delivery and the day after, so that's good. I notified Dan, and he refunded me for the molly with a sunken belly, and advised I use praziquantel to treat the mollies. I have to say I am disappointed, I appreciate the refund, but I would rather have a healthy fish than a sick free fish. This hasn't deterred me from ordering from Dan, in fact, I just placed another order for some different mollies, so we will see how they arrive, and hopefully Dan will go back to 100% for me. Dan still, even with the sick mollies, has a much better track record for me than my local fish shops.

Unfortunately our water values must have been too different. None survived. But I probably should have just bought shrimp locally. It’s just I can’t find orange Amano shrimp near by.

Seller Reply: Hello Pug Feathers, I'm sorry to hear the Gold Amano Shrimp did not do well for you. We've refunded you for the cost of the shrimp and the shipping associated with them. If I may venture a suggestion, I'd recommend that these shrimp not be drip acclimated, but simply be added directly to the tank once temps have equalized as described in the box insert. If you are willing to give that a try, I'd be happy to send you some free Gold Amanos on your next order if you would like. - Dan

  • Comment: I ordered 2 types of guppies and some platys. Some of the turquoise guppies had clamped fins and were not swimming well. I notified Dan's Fish and sent some pictures. I got a response 1 hour and 45 minutes later stating they had noticed some guppies with clamped fins and the guppies were subsequently diagnosed by their vet with tapeworm. I was told what medication they were using and fortunately, I had some on hand. I am sad some of the fish arrived ill - I had hoped for better. I am very happy that I got a quick response from Dan's Fish giving me a diagnosis and treatment - I think this is fantastic and likely unusual in the aquarium trade. The healthy fish look good. The fish arrived on time and well packed. All the fish are in a quarantine tank and I am treating them with ParaCleanse and salt.

  • Comment: 5-stars, I love buying from Dan's Fish, there's virtually no need to quarantine at all and the fish are usually very healthy. However... one of my 4 gobies I ordered just died, prompting me to leave this review. It is less than 2 weeks from arrival, and all four of the gobies seemed healthy at first, and I can see no signs of specific illness on this one except that it seemed very lethargic last night. Got home from work and it was belly up. This is the first time I've ever had a fish die that quickly after purchase, even from LFS. Perhaps some quirk of the goby, Idk. Regardless, I still recommend buying from these guys, they're a quality outfit and you can trust what you're getting... 98% of the time ;)

  • Comment: The five Sumo Loaches I received arrived fat & sassy and are still thriving. I also ordered two Gastromyzon Lepidogaster. The listing shows the estimated shipping size as 1.5”-2.5” but they were at least 3” upon arrival (I did by chance find a video after the fact that showed their true size). Unfortunately, one of the two Lepidogaster ended up dying four days after receipt. It had a red sore on its mouth but otherwise looked healthier than the other, which is still thriving as of this review a 1.5 months later. Water temperatures were a bit warm upon arrival (82-83 degrees). Though this experience wasn’t the best, I still highly recommend Dan’s Fish and appreciate his weekly livestream!

  • Comment: Got my order promptly on time. It was my biggest order to day (money wise)! All fish are healthy and eating well. Acclimatization was easy. The have already started to color up very well. Actually this is a 4 and a half star review. Two factors brought it down a little. Expensive fish and one fish has a wound from handling, I suppose. It is eating well and I think it will heal up just fine. Really the biggest plus for me is the fact at Dan's the fish are quarantined and treated for the common ailments for fish. This is a huge plus for me...

  • Comment: Package arrived on time and warm. Shipping and communication was first rate. All the fish appeared to be doing well on arrival but one of the black cories died shortly after. I opened the individual fish bags into one darkened container and started drip and temp acclimation. The cories all looked okay at this time but one was a little sluggish. After 6 hours of drip acclimation, one of the cories was belly up on the bottom. I moved him to my hospital tank overnight in case he was shocked but he never moved again. The rest of the cories and all the rasboras moved into tank after that and are all doing well.

  • Comment: My order arrived on time, in great shape, and at a toasty 75.5 degrees. Unfortunately, we lost one of the panda corys who was dead on arrival. The 5 other corys and 12 neon tetras all arrived in great shape. I tested the shipment water for ammonia after transfer and there was detectable amounts, but nothing I would not expect after 18 hours in transit. Neons are still hiding and defensively schooling, but I have seen them pick off some baby brine shrimp. I am hoping for some more normal behavior from them as they settle in over the next day or two. The remaining corys are acting perfectly normal since hitting my aquarium water rooting around in the sand and chasing each other up the glass. The dead cory looked a little skinny compared to the others I received, but no other ideas on what could have gone wrong with him. I will definately be ordering more from you in the future, but hopefully not too soon, I want to enjoy this order for several years to come. Thank you for always striving to improve yourselves and the industry at large. Keep it up! Update: Caught my new neon tetras spawning this morning! I have only had them 3 full days! Astounding, just tells you how well Dan and his team care for these fish. I thought they looked too young to be spawning already and also so soon after shipment? Wow! 2 Week Update: All fish that arrived alive are doing great growing and putting on weight. Thank you so much! The best fish buying experience I have had.

  • Comment: 4 out of 6 white wizard snails arrived unwell. It's not unusual for snails to go dormant in shipping. After 48 hours in the tank, only the 2 snails seem to be alive. The hoplo catfish from the same order all arrived alive, though with very tattered fins. Overall not the best experience. Other orders I've made from Dan's have been better. Generally, you can expect Dan's Fish to take care of you if you have any issues with your order. Try to reach out to them before leaving a review.

  • Comment: Nearly Flawless. 4.5/5 Fish arrived in a plain white box, no indication on the outside that live animals were inside the package. I checked the website prior to the box arrival to verify any policy for DOA or acclimation, but I wasn't able to find anything in the Q&A section. The box did include a card which indicated very brief directions, mentioning only ~20 minutes temperature acclimation. I would like to see these include slightly more detailed information, if need be, or link to a video that can be watched while the fish are temperature acclimating as required. The box arrived within the one day time frame, but upon opening the box the heat pack felt barely active, tepid at best. I pulled the heatpack off the lid and tried to re-activate the heatpack with fresh oxygen and moving the particles around. It was fully exhuasted (cold) about 45 minutes after box arrival. Had there been any delays at all in shipping, even one hour, I would've been more concerned. Fish arrived in an overall decent condition. One of the white clouds did look like it got a bit stressed and had some redness. I do have 1 of the 7 I ordered that isn't schooling with the group and seems stressed. My SAE I am monitoriing, but seems to be doing perfectly ok. I will monitor the fish over the next couple of days to verify they weren't damaged in shipping. Within a few hours of acclimating to their new home I turned the lights on and I could see normal fish coloration. Within the box itself, I would've expected some of the voids that were in the box to be filled with bags of air or packing material, but there wasn't anything like this. With the box not indicating live animals inside, this is a slight concern as far as how it was handled in transit. Overall a good experience, but there are some improvements explaining the overall process for newer hobbyists that want high quality fish from a trusted, reliable, sustainable source. I wish I had been able to order more fish!!!

Variatus looking good.One clown killi not swimming well. Time will tell. Fish packed nicely (individually). Heat pack still warm. One potential problem you should be aware of. The package was found on the front porch a little after 10am. I never receive any notification of delivery even though I signed up for a text message notification with UPS. I checked the tracking# link not long before delivery and it was last updated at 7am. This information didn't change until after 12 noon. The weather has been warmer than usual but today was a seasonal cold snap. I realize this is out of your control but wanted to let you know that this problem exists and could lead to poorer outcomes.

  • Comment: Beautiful fish and a ethical way to ship live stock!! My Apistogramma ‘Blue Flame’ came in very good shape. The only negative thought is that it showed signs of being fin nipped. It is totally reasonable if all of the blue flame males are kept in the same tank for inventory so I understand. By the way the fish’s fins fully recovered so it’s not a big deal. All and all I ordered the fish about 4 weeks ago and it’s very healthy and the colors are vibrant. I would say it looks realllly similar to what the pictures show. Overall a great experience and I will continue to purchase from Dansfish.com. P.S. I wish in the future Dan would consider selling the females so we can get this amazing European breed variant readily available in the U.S.

  • Comment: I wouldn’t order the Longfin tetras. They all arrived alive and well packaged but many of them had their tails torn, apparently they are fin nippers. If that had been listed in the description I wouldn’t have spent so much money on them. I would just stick to regular neon tetras. Update: Customer service responded with a refund and updated the description of the fish. 5/5 for customer service

  • Comment: I ordered 8 pairs of guppies, 4 different strains. They arrived about 2 weeks ago now. All fish arrived alive and happy! Acclimated well and look AMAZING! I did however have one of the groups (2 pairs blue metal dragon) die off one at a time over the next few days. No idea what happened. Every other fish is doing great and thriving in the same conditions and 2 of the groups dropped fry already.

  • Comment: Fish were packaged well. I love that the fish are placed in individual bags. They also sent me an extra fish, which I appreciated, so thanks Dan's Fish for that! However the heat pack was totally cold and the fish water was quite cold as well. Luckily the fish were active and healthy, but I think they need to add another heat pack or one that lasts a bit longer. Overall though, I am happy with my purchase.

Two out of five white clouds were DOA but Dans refunded me within an hour or two. They packed each fish really well - double bagged, sturdy plastic, no corners, and individually. Probably saved the other three white clouds from ammonia by having them bagged individually. Would definitely order again

  • Comment: All fish arrived on time and alive, but the Platinum Rummynose Tetras have some kind of issue... lost one from the previous order and Dan's sent a replacement with this order (9 total). Lost the replacement plus 3 more within 48 hours. They showed no signs of infection or disease, just died. Contacted Dan's and they offered to refund for the lost fish since they also were having issues with this batch of Rummynose. The only other thing was that the bags of fish were cold upon arrival due to the changing seasons. It may be too early for heat packs, but better than cold fish I think. Overall very satisfied with the great customer service and quick responses from Dan's! Still a great company with quality fish and extremely high standards! Thank you!!

These are one of our cornerstone species, and we usually do very well with them. Seems this batch is having issues during shipping, but that is rare...I can't remember the last time we had significant problems on a batch level.   • Comment: Rating should really be 4.75, but they only offer whole numbers. I ordered 4 Denison Barbs which were great. I ordered 4 Apisto Cacatuoides (unsexed) and happily got 2 males and 2 females. Absolutely beautiful males! I also ordered 4 Corydoras sterbai "Aquarium Strain". This is where we went wrong. They did all arrive alive, but one was EXTREMELY skinny. It was moving in the bag, but once I got it out, I could see it better. It had the shape of a tadpole. Normal head, but no width behind. When I put them in the tank, it dropped right to the bottom and lay there upside down. It did move around a little bit over the next couple hours and I hoped for the best. I threw some frozen baby brine in, hoping it would start to eat, but it was dead within 3 hours. I would absolutely buy from Dansfish again, but, in this case, I don't think there was anything I could do to save this guy. *Just a follow up- I wasn't expecting a refund, but was happily surprised. Great customer service. Definitely getting more fish from Dansfish in the future.

  • Comment: Really great customer service, fish came healthy, all alive and ate within 10 mins of adding to my QT tank. I asked for 4M/4F and i believe they delivered on that. My only complaint is the fish were advertised at 2.5-3" and the largest one i got was 2.5" and the rest are very clearly only 2" Plan to be a returning customer nonetheless.

  • Comment: Expensive shipping. Took a week to be shipped but then it was thankfully sent next-day. All five fish arrived alive even though ice pack was goopy and hot. They arrived much smaller than expected but I guess that's ok because they'll grow up. I'm a little disappointed that it looks like I was sent 5 of all the same gender but I'm crossing my fingers as they get older their appearances will change and I'll be wrong about that. They transitioned into my heavily planted tank quite well and they seem at ease. I'm glad I ordered because it's my first attempt at this species and they were kind of hard to find, but those few things made the experience less than 100%. It definitely could've gone worse though, so I'd still consider this company again in the future if they have something I want bad enough to fork over the shipping again.

  • Comment: I hesitated on giving a rating of four instead of five but the description of my purchase just did not match what I got. I ordered a Hypancistrus sp. L262 (L262 Stardust Pleco) which was advertised as being 2-3 inches in size. The actual critter would have to stretch to be 1 inch. This is not a big deal but I just can't give a five when what is advertised does not match the delivery. This was probably just an oversight but could be important depending on other fish in the tank. All in all I like these people. I've thrown several questions at them through their contact form and, while they could not help in all cases, the response has always been quick and polite. All in all I would highly recommend this outfit.

Dan of course was as always a pleasure to work with and will be shipping and replacing the L260. Fingers crossed I can raise this little guy whom was a little smaller than I expected when received. Replacement was received and Dan worked over and above with me to fill the box with no extra costs.

Not sure what happened with the little guy, but these plecos are usually quite hardy so I expect the replacement will do better. For future reference, when the L260 thumbnail is clicked, a detailed description page describing the size of the actual fish for sale pops up. That might help with sizing expectations in the future.   • Comment: Dans fish almost always arrived healthy and thrive. Way ahead of other online retailers. My one honest criticism would be that often I am surprised at the size of the fish I receive. Often the website does not include the current understanding the size of the fish being purchased. Honestly sometimes it’s an oversight from myself I’m sure. I’m sure this will be corrected overtime once the warehouse is complete.

The fish that arrived looked good and healthy. They arrived very well packaged. They took to my tank immediately (after the bags sat in the water for 30 minutes).

  • Comment: I have ordered a lot of fish over the last year. Some are terrible in the way they ship and treat the animals . Dans process in my opinion is the absolute best. I wish the fish were less costly so I can’t honestly give a rating if 5 . However understanding the time and effort he places in his delivery process I guess you pay for what you get.
