I was a bit nervous about my first order, as I thought this must be too good to be true. I was beyond impressed with the entire transaction. Fish packed to perfection. Quality unmatched.   • Comment: 4 out of 6 white wizard snails arrived unwell. It's not unusual for snails to go dormant in shipping. After 48 hours in the tank, only the 2 snails seem to be alive. The hoplo catfish from the same order all arrived alive, though with very tattered fins. Overall not the best experience. Other orders I've made from Dan's have been better. Generally, you can expect Dan's Fish to take care of you if you have any issues with your order. Try to reach out to them before leaving a review.

Two delivery drivers dropped off my 5 Bosemani Rainbow fish early this morning with less than a day in shipping. Packaged beautifully with a heating pad, the fish were individually wrapped and happily swimming when I opened the box. Writing this review almost 12 hours later and they are doing very well! Very happy with the purchase. Customer service was excellent. I will be back.

  • Comment: I placed a large (for me at least!) order and everyone arrived healthy and active. The Spotted Hillstream Loach is adorable. He was tiny when he arrived, but two weeks later he's already doubled in size. I've had poor success before with some locally purchased Nerite snails, but the Zebra Nerites I received from Dan's are all thriving. They are quite active, and I enjoy watching them move around my 55 gal. aquarium.

  • Comment: My puffers have been great and nearly a month on they're doing phenomenally. They're currently in a heavily planted tank with plenty of Neocaridina and I have every intention of adding otos now that I know everyone is healthy. I used to have scuds and a glut of ramshorn snails, but I'm 99% sure that neither populations survived the purge like I thought they would. It doesn't matter how many hiding places you think you have, the peas will find them. I can't guarantee you'll see it but I even saw one of the males practicing his puffing and for a glorious 10 seconds was a little yellow sphere. All in all, great little peas.

  • Comment: Every fish arrived on time and in great shape. I always get nervous shipping fish but living in a rural area it is the only way I can fill my aquariums. They do a wonderful job with each fish clearly marked which is handy if the fish are going into separate aquariums. I used to deal only in Gobies with Dan's Fish but I was overjoyed to discovered that there are many other options. Dan's Fish takes the worry out of buying fish online. With a lack of local options I decided to dig into my research and I found Dan's Fish. I was sold by his process and found his prices honestly fairly competitive for the species I was looking at.   • Comment: Nearly Flawless. 4.5/5 Fish arrived in a plain white box, no indication on the outside that live animals were inside the package. I checked the website prior to the box arrival to verify any policy for DOA or acclimation, but I wasn't able to find anything in the Q&A section. The box did include a card which indicated very brief directions, mentioning only ~20 minutes temperature acclimation. I would like to see these include slightly more detailed information, if need be, or link to a video that can be watched while the fish are temperature acclimating as required. The box arrived within the one day time frame, but upon opening the box the heat pack felt barely active, tepid at best. I pulled the heatpack off the lid and tried to re-activate the heatpack with fresh oxygen and moving the particles around. It was fully exhuasted (cold) about 45 minutes after box arrival. Had there been any delays at all in shipping, even one hour, I would've been more concerned. Fish arrived in an overall decent condition. One of the white clouds did look like it got a bit stressed and had some redness. I do have 1 of the 7 I ordered that isn't schooling with the group and seems stressed. My SAE I am monitoriing, but seems to be doing perfectly ok. I will monitor the fish over the next couple of days to verify they weren't damaged in shipping. Within a few hours of acclimating to their new home I turned the lights on and I could see normal fish coloration. Within the box itself, I would've expected some of the voids that were in the box to be filled with bags of air or packing material, but there wasn't anything like this. With the box not indicating live animals inside, this is a slight concern as far as how it was handled in transit. Overall a good experience, but there are some improvements explaining the overall process for newer hobbyists that want high quality fish from a trusted, reliable, sustainable source. I wish I had been able to order more fish!!!

The package was found on the front porch a little after 10am. I never receive any notification of delivery even though I signed up for a text message notification with UPS. I checked the tracking# link not long before delivery and it was last updated at 7am. This information didn't change until after 12 noon. The weather has been warmer than usual but today was a seasonal cold snap. I realize this is out of your control but wanted to let you know that this problem exists and could lead to poorer outcomes.

I sent Dan a message about the one dead guppy and I really didn’t expect a refund because it had been over 24 hours, but Dan refunded my money and partial shipping for the guppy. He was also curious about the one Cory that was different and asked for a picture. So I sent him a picture to confirm. I actually plan on buying a few more of what I think is a Venezuelan schultzei if Dan confirms so he won’t be all alone. Original post: This was not Dan’s fault, but UPS did not deliver my fish the next day by noon. It took 2 days to get my fish. I was at my house when the fish were delivered, so I unpacked them immediately. I had 7 Venezuelan Red Sail Cory’s and 3 Blue Topaz guppies. I put all the fish on a drip from my quarantine tank and let them be for over 4 hours. When I put the Cory’s in the tank,,one was having some breathing issues and he seemed much darker than the others, of the guppies, I put 2 in the tank, but kept one back as it was just lying in the ground not doing well. The Cory recovered and is fine, but he is definitely not like the others. I believe he is a Black Venezuela Cory Catfish (corydoras schultzei), and not a Venezuelan Red Sail. The guppy sadly did not make it. I have sent a message to Dan about the guppy, but have not heard back. Overall I am happy with my fish, and would buy from Dan again. I gave 4 stars because I did loose one fish, and one of the Cory’s was a different variety from what I ordered. Also, UPS should have gotten the fish to me next day for the amount of shipping.

One of the Rams has been hiding as he has been continually bullied by a smaller Bolivian Ram that has been in the 90 gallon tank for several months. Fortunately, there is a lot of vegetation and plenty of places to hide. I'm not confident in his survival and I don't have another tank that I can transfer him to.

  • Comment: I received my order of electric blue acaras, red dragon guppies and cherry shrimp today and so far, my experience has been amazing. All of the fish came in their own bag, some of them (maybe all) were double bagged and the box came well packed and warm. All of the fish were bright, colorful and plump. The red dragon guppy female is even pregnant and looks like she is going to pop out some babies any day. All of the fish went in their respective tanks, have quickly become comfortable and just got their first meal. I would highly recommend purchasing from Dans fish, the entire experience has been flawless.

The packaging is easily best I've ever seen, and the fish were in phenomenal health upon arrival (one of my minnows was even still super colorful!!). Everyone has been added to their new homes, but the Dwarf Rasbora are especially happy: THEY STARTED BREEDING IMMEDIATELY. Mine even pick at food that is on the sand, they tear up frozen shrimp like a pack of dogs, funny little fish. Anyway made my 2nd order and yeah, each one in its own double bagged, heat sealed package, plenty of water, he fasts them before shipping so no poo or cloudy water, just great. Now to get Dan to stock corals & saltwater fish...

  • Comment: Sorry to hear that Jonny had to clean up a tank overflow when he got in on Monday. No problem regarding the Bamboo Shrimp. These things happen. I just feel sorry for everyone having a clean up to do first thing Monday morning. Everybody else arrived here safe and sound today, and after drip acclimating, are now settling into their new home. The Amano shrimp got to work straight away, and are cleaning leaves as I type this. One of the Gastromyzon cf. psiloetron is working over one of the tank walls, and the other is giving an anubius leaf a good cleaning. The loaches are smaller than I thought they'd be, but that is fine, since their diminutive size makes them perfect for cleaning small amounts of algae off of plant leaves until they grow too big to be supported by the plants any longer. As always, it's just a joy working with all of you, and the care with which you get the fish ready for their journey is greatly appreciated not only by the fish, but also by me. You have won yourselves a loyal customer who will never go anywhere else for her fish. Thank all of you for you excellent and diligent work! You are the best!
