Overview: The Threadfin Acara is a relatively peaceful South American Cichlid. It is suitable for most peaceful community aquariums, provided there are no fish small enough to be easily eaten by the Acara. These fish make excellent tankmates for other larger South-American Cichlids such as Angelfish or Discus. Threadfin Acaras make for a fantastic centerpiece fish in an Amazon biotope.
This fish spends most of its time swimming midwater. It is known to uproot plants, but is otherwise a very peaceful fish. It can be kept in a tank as the only member of its species or with multiple fish, although it may exhibit dominance on the other fish if kept in a group of two.
Setup Considerations: 40 gallon aquarium or larger is recommended.
Specific Care Requirements: Will thrive in standard aquarium parameters.
Diet: Omnivore. Currently eating a variety of prepared foods (Pellets and flakes) as well as live and frozen foods. Be sure to feed enough vegetable matter in this fish's diet, as it can have problems with diets consisting primarily of protein.
