Overview:
A quick note about peppering. All varieties of discus originating from pigeon blood lines have peppering to some degree. The amount of peppering has to do with mood, environment, genetics, and the color of the aquarium glass itself. Many discus keepers paint the bottom and sides of their aquarium white because the lighter the color of the aquarium the less peppering will occur. Here at Dan's Fish, we are more concerned with fish health than anything, so we keep our discus in tanks where the bottom and sides are painted black because we feel that is a more calming environment for freshly acquired fish. The consequence is that our pigeon blood line discus sometimes have quite a bit of peppering on them. If that concerns you, keep them in a light colored environment and the peppering will dampen down over time as they settle in.
