Overview: This is a wonderful algae eater and is reported to be an efficient eradicator of the dreaded Black Beard Algae.

These fish can be found at over 5000 ft. above sea level in Nepal, so it seems safe to assume they can take a wide range of temperatures and are rather cold tolerant. In parts of its range, it is an important food fish in impoverished regions.

Setup Considerations: A very hardy fish which does well in a variety of setups.

Specific Care Requirements: They appreciate a lot of surfaces to graze on. If the aquarium has stones, wood, and other surfaces, these fish will spend a lot of time grazing on and "playing" around the hardscape.

Diet: Omnivore: They are excellent algae eaters and eat lots of veggies with gusto, but also need protein in their diet.
